Unable to Add or Update chemistry objects

13th February 2023 by Mike Williams

There are some locations in which Microsoft Word does not permit drawing objects.

We thought we had most of them detected, it seems you have found another.

Please can you supply us with a sample document showing clearly where chem4word is unable to insert or update structures? You can either send them to info@chem4word.co.uk or post them on our facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/chem4word

Word is not Licenced

12th July 2022 by Mike Williams

If you see this error message “The SmartCutPaste method or property is not available because the license to use this application has expired..” this is telling you that someting is wrong inside Microsoft Word.

Chem4Word does not contain any components which require a licence.

Please check if your copy of Microsoft Office Activated?

In Office 365 this can be seen in menu “File” -> “Account”.

If the problem still persists could try either repairing Microsoft Office or un-Installing it then re-installing it.

Incompatibility with Windows Store Apps

1st June 2021 by Mike Williams

We have determied that some errors are being caused by either

  • Word being installed from the Windows Store (this can be when it’s bundled with your PC by the manufacturer)
  • Multiple versions of Word being installed on your PC

We have developed a PowerShell script which can detect all installations of Word which you have on your machine it can be found at https://pastebin.com/k7tw8eZn

If any of the detected installations are in a folder that starts with “C:\Program Files\WindowsApps” this indicates that they have been installed from the Microsoft store and should be uninstalled and replaced with the normal ClickToRun installed which you can find at https://portal.office.com/account or https://www.office.com

NB: “C:\Program Files” is windows installation language specific an may vary
A list of translated versions can be found on wikipedia here
